Somatic
Soma translates to “the body as perceived from within”. This modality teaches you to focus conscious attention inward. Somatics’ slow, intentional movement works with the body’s natural learning rhythm. This tempered pace allows the brain to assimilate these new pain-free patterns of movement.
Somatic movement is about quality not quantity. Somatics teaches us, with eyes closed, to connect to the ‘felt-sense’ of movement. We will ask you to forget about how you look doing it while you focus on how it feels.
You will improve physical function by increasing sensation, motor control, and habitual movement patterns. This practice allows muscles to relax fully, with the goal of alleviating pain. This class is suitable for anyone, but particularly good for students with chronic pain and limited range of motion.
